Dr. Tail Winged Elevator 1mm - Standard Handle
Winged elevators are the workhorse of small-animal extractions. The thin, curved blade with "wings" on each side follows the curve of the root, so you can cut the periodontal ligament and gently loosen a tooth before lifting it out with extraction forceps. This collection covers winged elevators on a standard-length handle, which gives a full palm grip and good leverage, especially for larger dogs and multi-rooted teeth.
Sizes and sets
- Single elevators in 1 mm, 2 mm, 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm and 6 mm tip widths. Match the tip to the root: narrow tips for incisors, premolars and cats; wider tips for canines and large roots.
- Sets – 4-piece (2–5 mm), 5-piece (2–6 mm) and 7-piece (2–8 mm) kits, plus inside-bent and back-bent 4-piece kits for awkward angles.
- Straight root elevator and periosteal elevator for root tips and raising gingival flaps.
Standard or stubby handle?
Standard handles suit most practitioners and larger patients. If you prefer a shorter instrument that sits in the palm for very fine control, see winged elevators with a stubby handle. Keep elevators sharp: a dull blade needs more force and is more likely to slip or fracture a root.
