The Dr. Tail Equine Right-Angle Molar Forceps are 19" extraction forceps with the jaws set at a right angle (90°) to the handles. The angled head lets you seat the jaws squarely on a cheek tooth while the long handles stay comfortably outside the mouth, giving strong leverage with a clear line of sight.

Key Features

  • The 90° angled head approaches the tooth from the side for better access and visibility on cheek teeth.
  • At 19" long, the handles deliver good leverage and keep your hands outside the horse's mouth.
  • Broad, flat jaws spread pressure across the crown for a secure hold.
  • Contoured handles with rounded ends stay comfortable and controlled during oscillation.
  • A solid pivot joint gives smooth, stable jaw action.
  • Made from durable, corrosion-resistant stainless steel that is easy to clean.

How It's Used

Molar forceps are applied only after the tooth has been prepared. With the horse sedated and a local nerve block fully effective, the gingiva is elevated around the tooth and molar spreaders are used to gradually widen the spaces between neighboring teeth. The forceps jaws are then seated firmly on the clinical crown, checked for correct placement, and the tooth is loosened with slow, low-amplitude side-to-side oscillation, increasing movement only as the tooth loosens. Twisting the forceps should be avoided, as it can fracture the crown.

Ideal For

  • Equine veterinarians and equine dental technicians
  • Oral extraction of loose, diseased or fractured cheek teeth
  • Situations where a straight-on approach is difficult
