The Dr. Tail Equine Curved Beak Incisor & Root Extraction Forceps have narrow beaks that curve downward at the tip, letting you grasp an incisor, retained cap or root fragment at an angle while the long 19" handles keep your hands well clear of the mouth.

Key Features

  • Curved, beak-shaped jaws grip teeth and roots from an angled approach.
  • Narrow tips fit around small teeth, caps and root remnants.
  • The 19" length gives long reach and good leverage.
  • Ringed grips give secure, non-slip control.
  • Made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel that is easy to clean.

Clinical Uses

  • Loose, fractured or diseased incisors, once loosened with elevators.
  • Retained baby teeth and caps that have not shed, typically in horses up to about five years old.
  • Loose root tips and sharp root spicules.

How It's Used

Forceps are used to deliver a tooth that has already been loosened. The gingival attachment is freed and the periodontal ligament worked with dental elevators until the tooth is mobile. The beaks are then seated on the tooth close to the gum line and gentle rotational and rocking pressure is applied until it releases. Caps are best removed once the boundary between the cap and the permanent tooth is visible, and any sharp root spicule left behind should also be removed.

Ideal For

  • Equine veterinarians and equine dental technicians
  • Incisor, cap and root extractions
  • Routine dentistry in young horses
