How to hand-strip with a stripping comb

1. Start with a dry, brushed coat. Brush or comb out tangles first. Stripping works best on a clean, dry coat.
2. Choose the blade. Coarser teeth for the back and sides, finer teeth for the head, ears, legs and finishing.
3. Hold the skin taut. With your free hand, gently stretch the skin behind the area you are working on.
4. Pull with the grain. Trap a few hairs between the blade and your thumb, and pull in the direction the hair grows with a short, steady motion. Keep your wrist straight; do not twist or cut.
5. Work in small sections, taking breaks if the dog gets restless. A coat that is "blown" (ready to strip) comes away easily.

Never drag the blade across the skin. If the skin looks red or irritated, stop and let it rest.

Care

• Brush hair out of the teeth after each dog and wipe the blades clean and dry.
• Keep the wooden handles out of water; wipe them with a damp cloth only.
• Store each comb back in its slot in the zip case.
