The Dr. Tail Equine Wolf Tooth & Incisor Extraction Forceps Set gives equine veterinarians and dental practitioners three essential jaw angles in one compact kit. Each 7" forceps is sized for precise control in the front of the mouth, where most routine extractions happen: wolf teeth, incisors, retained deciduous teeth and loose fragments.

What's Included

  • Straight-jaw forceps (7", approx. 6 to 7 oz) with tapered jaws in line with the handles, for direct access to incisors, wolf teeth and canines.
  • Curved-jaw forceps (7", approx. 6 to 7 oz) with jaws angled sharply downward for gripping teeth from above, ideal for lower incisors and wolf teeth.
  • Offset (bayonet) forceps (7", approx. 6 to 7 oz) with stepped jaws that reach around the lips and cheek while keeping your line of sight clear.
  • A zip-around storage case keeps the set organized and protected between calls.

Key Features

  • Three jaw angles in one set give you the right approach for every tooth position.
  • The 7" length gives fine control and good feel on small teeth.
  • Criss-cross knurled handles stay secure even with wet or gloved hands.
  • Box-joint construction gives smooth, stable jaw action.
  • Made from polished stainless steel that is easy to clean and sterilize.

Clinical Uses

  • Wolf teeth (upper first premolars), often removed in performance horses because they may contribute to bit discomfort.
  • Loose, fractured or diseased incisors, once loosened with elevators.
  • Baby incisors that have not shed as the permanent teeth erupt.
  • Canines and loose fragments that have already been loosened.

How It's Used

Veterinary references describe the same sequence for wolf teeth and incisors. With the horse sedated (and local anesthesia as needed), the gingival attachment is freed and the tooth is loosened with a dental elevator or luxator. Only then is a small extraction forceps used to grasp the crown and deliver the tooth, using gentle rotation and steady pressure rather than a hard pull. Because wolf teeth sit close to the palatine artery and their roots can be fragile, working slowly with the correct jaw angle helps remove the whole tooth cleanly. Equine dental procedures should be performed by a veterinarian or qualified equine dental practitioner.

Ideal For

  • Equine veterinarians and equine dental technicians
  • Routine dentistry in young and performance horses
  • A compact, portable extraction kit for ambulatory work
