The Dr. Tail Equine Wolf Tooth Forceps are compact 9.5" extraction forceps for removing wolf teeth and incisor caps. The jaws are grooved for a secure hold on small, smooth teeth, and the knurled, curved handles, including a hooked finger rest, give fine control and leverage during the final extraction.

Key Features

  • Grooved jaws grip small teeth securely without slipping.
  • The compact 9.5" length gives precise control at the front of the mouth.
  • Knurled handles stay secure with wet or gloved hands.
  • A hooked finger rest steadies the hand and adds leverage.
  • Made from corrosion-resistant stainless steel that is easy to clean.

About Wolf Teeth

The wolf tooth is the small upper first premolar, located just in front of the upper cheek tooth row. Sharp edges on wolf teeth have been linked to bit resistance, so they are often extracted in performance horses.

How It's Used

The procedure is typically performed in the standing, sedated horse with local anesthesia. The gingival attachment is elevated and a dental elevator or luxator, such as the Dr. Tail Burgess-Style Wolf Tooth Elevator (EQI27), is used to loosen the tooth. The forceps are then used to grasp the crown and deliver the tooth from its socket. Wolf teeth lie close to the palatine artery, so working carefully and keeping instruments controlled is important. Socket healing usually needs minimal aftercare.

Ideal For

  • Equine veterinarians and equine dental technicians
  • Wolf tooth removal in young and performance horses
  • Removing incisor caps
